I have worked too hard in this life and this career to be whittled down to a sad, childless human.
We all tend to believe that we live in an age where we all are equal and have equal opportunities. But the way some things are perceived makes us question if equality is anything but an illusion.
When Meryl Streep said that she is yet to see an interviewer asking a man how does he manage both marriage and work, she was showing us the double standard that exists when it comes to women and their work life.
Jennifer Aniston’s recent interview with Marie Claire just re-emphasised the fact.
The actress, who is well remembered as Rachel from the classic series Friends, gave an interview to Marie Claire. Aniston discussed how paparazzi’s particular way of covering her life disturbed her.
She said,
“My marital status has been shamed; my divorce status was shamed; my lack of a mate had been shamed; my nipples have been shamed. It’s like, Why are we only looking at women through this particular lens of picking us apart? Why are we listening to it?
I just thought: I have worked too hard in this life and this career to be whittled down to a sad, childless human.”
In the month of July, Aniston wrote an essay on The Huffington Post in which she shared her frustration over pregnancy rumors. The actress wrote,
“For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up. I’m fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of “journalism,” the “First Amendment” and “celebrity news.”
She also talked about her career and what’s in store for her in the future. The actress stars in Office Christmas Party, a comedy that will be released soon. When asked about her future projects, she said,
“This is a time when I’m not completely sure what I’m doing. I’m at this sort of crossroads trying to figure out what inspires me deep in my core. What used to make me tick is not necessarily making me tick any- more … The most challenging thing right now is trying to find what it is that makes my heart sing.”
We look forward to Aniston’s new project.
The kind of journalism that intrudes an individual’s private space is not appreciated. That for once is not news, it’s voyeurism.
