Drew Allison Carey is well-known as an American comedian, actor, and game show host. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and making a name for himself in stand-up comedy, Carey gained stardom in his sitcom, The Drew Carey Show, and as host of the U.S. version of the improv comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, both of which aired on ABC.

Drew Carey’s parents: Beulah Carey, and Lewis Carey

Carey was born on May 23, 1958, to Lewis and Beulah Carey and was raised in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. When Drew was eight years old, his father died from a heart attack. That led his mother to be a single mother.

Beulah Carey did different types of jobs as a single mother to support her sons, Drew, Neal, and Roger, after the death of their father. She was a keypunch operator for Bearings Inc., a receptionist and secretary for the Memphis Music Center, and a check processor for the Federal Reserve Bank, all in Cleveland. At one time, she worked in the packaging department of American Greetings.

Beulah died at the age of 79, on one Friday at the Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.
