Last night Lin-Manuel Miranda took a visit to The Tonight Show, to discuss and share his film adaptation of In the Heights.
The actor broke into song; he and The Tonight Show host, Jimmy Fallon, sang and danced their way through Broadway classics.
The performance commemorated the industry that has been shut down since the early days of the pandemic, but the hopeful tunes parallel the planned September reopening.
The pair begins the performance by paying homage to the theatre going experience – memories of overpriced snacks and crowded spaces feel foreign after so long without them.
They referenced shows such as West Side Story, Hamilton, Wicked, Dear Evan Hansen, and more. Appearances were made from Tony winners Kristin Chenoweth, Phylicia Rashad, and Laura Benanti, and Christopher Jackson. Hamilton’s “You’ll be Back” is parodied with new lyrics and industry references, for a comedic look into the last year.
Miranda shared with the audience that “there is life beyond your friends at Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, [and] DisneyPlus.” Which Broadway show are you eager to see, once the lights are back on? Let us know by tweeting us @celebsecrets.
