Do you have the courage and fortitude to follow orders and stay true in the face of danger and almost certain death? Have you ever dreamed of springing a man from jail? Commandeering a ship from the Fleet? Sailing with a buccaneer crew out of Tortuga? Are you completely obsessed with treasure? If the answer to any of these questions is a hearty, “Aye!” then I suggest you set sail for Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom. Once there, you can sign up for “A Pirate’s Adventure: Treasure of the Seven Seas,” an interactive Attraction for Disney Guests of all ages.
The game takes you through Adventureland, looking for one of five treasures. Players use their magic bands or a special talisman card to activate a variety of special effects that guide you to the next stage of your adventure, but be warned! Perilous traps and treacherous pirates stand between you and the treasure.
Here are five facts you need to know about this swashbuckling good time at the Magic Kingdom:
1. What Does it Cost?
Like Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, A Pirate’s Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas is free to play. The only cost is the price of admission to the park.
2. Enlisting as a Pirate
Guests enlist to start their journey at the Crow’s Nest in Adventureland. It sits on the border of Adventureland and Frontierland, near the Golden Oak Outpost. When you sign up, you are given a map that will guide you to each stop on your journey. There are five possible adventures and your map will tell you which one you are on. The quests are titled: Heads You Lose (a hunt which pits you against Captain Barbosa), Guardian Curse (where your enemy is a British captain), Haven Defense (collecting ingredients for a magic spell to hide a secret port before finding the Treasure of the Caribbean), A King’s Ransom (a search for a ship and the Treasure of the Arctic), and Blackbeard (a battle against the fearsome pirate captain as you search for the Treasure of the Mediterranean). You can enlist to play all the way up to a half hour before park close.
3. How To Play
After enlisting, players follow their map around Adventureland. There are symbols on the map, such as crossed cutlasses, a cannon, or a ship’s wheel. You must find the symbols on the map located on objects in the park. Once you find the symbol, you press your magic band or talisman card against it, activating a special effect. A statue might come to life, a cannon fire, or a trap might even be sprung (look out for the blow dart guns in particular. I’d tell you where they are…but I don’t want to ruin the surprise). You’ll also receive instructions on what symbol to look for next. Follow them all until you find the treasure! One mission should take approximately 20 minutes.
4. Card Collecting
After completing a map, return to the Crow’s Nest and you’ll be given a special card indicating that you finished the quest. You can keep your map, and once you’ve completed all five quests you’ll receive a special sixth card signed by Captain Jack Sparrow himself!
5. Your Progress Gets Saved
Don’t have time to complete a mission? Not to worry! Your progress is saved and you can return to it throughout the day. Can’t finish all five quests in one day? That’s not a problem either. Your magic band will let you pick up where you left off when you return.
The game is a fun way to fill extra time and definitely provides that extra spark of Disney magic to any visit. Just remember:
